# wpDataTables License Activation: Local versus Live Sites

Understanding how wpDataTables licenses work for live websites, local environments, and intranet setups.

For our **Standard License plan**, you can activate it on **one main domain at a time**, but you will have **unlimited subdomains** available for activation.

You can switch between domains—for example, when moving from a **staging site to a live/production site** and vice versa. However, a **Standard License cannot be active on two domains simultaneously**.

If you need to activate multiple domains at the same time, you can upgrade to a **Pro or Developer License**. More details are available in our article [**Upgrading Licenses**](https://help.wpdatatables.com/en/articles/3-how-can-i-upgrade-my-license.md).

### What about local or intranet sites?

You **do not need to activate your license** for a **staging, test, development, or local (intranet) installation**. Instead, you can **manually install and update** the plugin by downloading the latest version from your **TMS Store account**.

We recommend keeping **license activation reserved for your live site**.
