# Can I use a file from OneDrive or SharePoint as a data source for wpDataTables?

Learn why OneDrive and SharePoint URLs are not currently supported as data sources in wpDataTables, and see which file URL types are allowed.

Unfortunately, it’s not currently possible to use a file stored on **OneDrive** or **SharePoint** as a data source for wpDataTables via a direct URL.

### ✅ Supported options for using CSV or Excel files via URL

As explained in our documentation:
👉 [Creating wpDataTables from Excel](https://wpdatatables.com/documentation/creating-wpdatatables/creating-wpdatatables-from-excel/)

There are **two supported methods** for using CSV or Excel files as data sources:

* * *

### 1\. Using the WordPress Media Library

You can upload your file directly to the WordPress Media Library.

> 🔹 The file **must be hosted on the same domain** as your WordPress website.

* * *

### 2\. Using an External URL

You can also link to a file hosted on another domain, **as long as it meets the following conditions**:

- The file is **publicly accessible** (no login or authentication required)

- The URL must **end with the file name and its extension**, such as:

```javascript
https://example.com/files/data.xlsx
https://example.com/files/data.csv
```

⚠ URLs that end with query parameters (e.g., `...?id=123`) or don’t include the file extension **will not work**.

### ❌ Why OneDrive and SharePoint URLs don’t work

Files stored on OneDrive or SharePoint often:

-   Require login/authentication

- Use URLs that do **not** end in a direct file name with `.csv` or `.xlsx`

- Include redirects or session-based access tokens

Because of these limitations, **they are not supported** by wpDataTables at this time.
