If you're looking to merge cells in your table, this is currently possible only when using the Simple Table type in wpDataTables.
Simple Tables are designed for flexibility and manual editing. They include features like:
Merging adjacent cells
Drag-and-drop row reordering
More manual control over layout and formatting
See live examples with merged cells:
https://wpdatatables.com/documentation/table-examples/wordpress-table-merge-cells/
But please note — Simple Tables also come with some limitations, such as:
No connection to external data sources (Excel, Google Sheets, SQL, etc.)
No filtering, sorting, or searching
No front-end editing

At the moment, merged cells are not supported in any other table type — including:
Manual tables
SQL-based tables
Tables linked to external data sources (like Excel or Google Sheets)
Any other advanced or dynamic table type
That said, we know this is a requested feature, and it’s on our development radar.
While we do plan to support it in the future, we can’t give a realistic ETA.
